Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission.

WELCOME! We are exited for you and your family as you take this next step in your journey of faith as members of our parish community and the Catholic Church.
Baptisms are typically celebrated on the first Sunday of each month at either the 9:15am Mass(Spanish) or the 11:00am Mass. Your child's baptism may only be scheduled once all requirements are completed. Availability on the number of children baptized at each Mass is limited and is assigned on a first come first serve basis.
Baptism is the Sacrament of faith that brings a person into the Church Community and makes him or her one with Christ.
Baptism is the foundation of our life in Christ. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, Baptism:

bestows God’s grace on a person,

frees the recipient from sin, and,

makes the person a member of the body of Christ

The Baptism Rite uses blessed water and spoken words to celebrate a person’s coming to life in God.
Arrangements for Baptism take place at the Youth & Family Ministry Office,
Monday through Thursday, 9:00 – 5:00 pm, by Lucy Campos.

Preparations for the Sacrament of Baptism will be discussed with parents during the initial office visit.

Requirements for Baptism are as follows. Please have all the necessary documents ready before you register for Baptism. This will save you an extra trip to our office.

The child's birth certificate from the courthouse (not the hospital copy)

Parents must be registered members of Notre Dame.

Godparents must be at least 16 years of age and a practicing Catholic who has recieved the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. If the godparents are married they must be married in the Catholic Church. A copy of their marriage certificate from the Church will be needed.

If the godparents live out of town, they will need to take the pre-baptismal classes in the parish in which they are registered. They must also obtain a letter from their Pastor stating that they have permission to be godparents at Notre Dame. The letter from their Pastor and the certification of having attended the pre-baptismal classes must reach our office two weeks prior to the celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism.

Note: There has to be a minimum of one godparent. If two godparents are chosen, it must be one male and one female. Parents of the one being baptized are not to be the godparents. A baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic faith community may be admitted as a Christian witness along with a Catholic sponsor.

Role of the godparents

For the grace of Baptism to unfold, the parents' help is important. So too is the role of the godparents, who must be firm believers, able and ready to help the newly baptized child or adult on the road of Christian life.
