In August 2014, Fr. Michael Boulette (now Auxiliary Bishop of San Antonio) formed a committee to oversee the process of adding three new pieces of religious art to our church. The first priority was to find a way to marry our modified Celtic cross that was made for this church with a new body of Jesus-a-corpus that would become therefore a crucifix.
On November 1, 2015, we blessed the fruit of this committee’s labors and the grace of God that sustained them. The committee was chaired by Dorothy Cass and Dwayne Mosser. The other members of the group were Lisa Calderon, Diane Hawkins, Jimmy Reno, Norma Sanchez, Rosemary Suess, and Cynthia White.
We have been completely satisfied by the artisans of the Fernando Stuflesser Group from Italy who have executed our instructions so faithfully and with great grace. They have been creating Sacred Art since 1875.
We pray God's blessing upon this Sacred Image of the Jesus on the cross, but before he has expired. He directs his vision toward us as he gives us his holy mother Mary, the patroness of our parish. He seeks a conversation with us as he gives his life for us reminding us that we are forgiven, as the good thief, and that his life is given as a pardon for our sins.
